Abstract

Introduction: The importance of blood plasma and its healing properties in the treatment of chronic wounds is a promising therapy in regenerative medicine. Platelet-rich plasma is extracted from venous blood, composed of cells responsible for activating the body's defenses. Its application in chronic wounds together with platelet-rich fibrin promotes acceleration of the healing process and tissue regeneration. Objective: To perform a procedure of application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) in the wound of a diabetic patient, evaluating the efficacy and safety of the treatment. Methods: This is a case report, carried out in a teaching clinic of a private university center in the Federal District. Clinical data reported in an interview with the patient, photodocumentation in all applications and the patient was instructed to sign the free and informed consent form were collected. Blood was collected in each session. The blood was centrifuged at 1800 rpm to obtain PRP and PRF for later application. The concentrate was quantified in relation to its density. Results: Both PRP and PRF applications in the wounds resulted in a significant improvement in healing and tissue regeneration. A reduction in the size of the chronic wound and tissue oxygenation were observed. Conclusion: Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that plasma applications were an effective and relevant auxiliary mechanism in the recovery of the patient's wound, demonstrating potential to be a valuable treatment in similar cases.
