The Importance of Specialized Care for Polytrauma Patients.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the importance of specialized care for polytrauma patients. This is a bibliographic review with a qualitative approach, in which the Google Scholar, BVS and Scielo databases were used as search engines to select articles. The inclusion criteria were articles in Portuguese and English, published between 2020 and 2025 (last 5 years). The exclusion criteria were articles outside the time limit and accepted language, monographs, theses, dissertations, incomplete articles and articles with restricted access. The adoption of protocols, combined with the use of advanced technologies to identify injuries, enhances early diagnosis and rapid targeting of therapeutic strategies. This set of measures should directly contribute to the reduction of neurological, hemodynamic and respiratory complications, especially in the first hours after trauma, a period that is critical for survival. The importance of multidisciplinary rehabilitation, including physiotherapy and psychosocial support, is also highlighted to consolidate better prognoses and minimize long-term sequelae.
