Abstract

Risk-based care in obstetric centers is a fundamental strategy to ensure safe, agile, and humane care for pregnant women, women in labor, and women who have recently given birth. This screening model enables early identification of conditions that require immediate intervention, reducing maternal-fetal complications and optimizing the allocation of care resources. The objective of this study is to analyze the importance of this approach in the quality of obstetric care, highlighting its benefits, challenges, and impact on maternal-child safety. The results of the literature review show that the implementation of standardized risk-classification protocols improves the efficiency of care and reduces waiting times for serious cases. Studies indicate that the role of nurses in this process is essential to ensure adequate screening, allowing pregnant women in emergency situations to be quickly referred for specialized care. However, challenges such as lack of professional training, scarcity of resources, and overload of health services compromise the effectiveness of this strategy. Furthermore, the lack of standardization of risk criteria can lead to errors in prioritizing care, negatively impacting maternal and neonatal outcomes. It is concluded that reception with risk classification has a significant impact on the quality of obstetric care, promoting greater safety and humanization in the care of pregnant women. For its implementation to be effective, it is necessary to strengthen professional training, structure health services and develop public policies that guarantee the standardization of screening protocols. In this way, this strategy can contribute significantly to the reduction of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality, ensuring more efficient and accessible care for women.
