Abstract

Persistent Sciatic Artery (PSA) is a rare anatomical variant in which the sciatic arteries did not regress during embryonic development, resulting in a direct continuation of the internal iliac artery. This condition may remain asymptomatic for a long period, but may manifest as sciatic neuralgia or, in more severe cases, degenerate into an aneurysm, presenting as a pulsatile mass in the gluteal region or leading to thrombosis and distal embolism with ischemia. The scientific work in question deals with a case report of a female patient, 74 years old, resident in the city of Guarujá, diagnosed with Persistent Sciatic Artery (PSA) on the right, during a Vascular Ultrasound examination with Doppler due to pain in the right lower limb.
