Epidemiological study of acquired syphilis in southeastern Brazil from 2019 to 2023

Abstract

The aim of this study is to carry out an epidemiological study of syphilis cases in southeastern Brazil. To this end, the data platform in the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (Datasus) was used and, based on the filters year of notification, sex, race and the time frame from 2019 to 2023, information was collected for the study. The results showed that the state of São Paulo has the highest number of cases of the disease, and that this illness continues to show significant numbers over the years, including a considerable increase from 2019 to 2023. Finally, this article concludes that Syphilis is an issue that deserves the attention of public health bodies and that the epidemiological profile of the disease for this macro-region is made up of males aged between 20 and 39 and of white or brown race.
