The Importance of the Multidisciplinary Team in the Care of Polytraumatized Patients in Emergency Services

Introduction: The care of polytraumatized patients in emergency and urgent care settings requires rapid and coordinated action from a multidisciplinary team. The severity and complexity of the traumas demand simultaneous interventions from various professionals, such as doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and psychologists, in order to ensure the patient's survival and reduce sequelae. This study aims to investigate the relevance of the joint work of the multidisciplinary team in the care of polytraumatized patients in emergency and urgent care services, aiming at the quality of care and clinical outcomes. Method: This study is a literature review with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The research was conducted in scientific databases such as Medline, Lilacs, and BDENF, using descriptors: "patient care team" "care services" "patients" "emergencies" "Multiple Trauma" and in gray literature. Results and Discussion: It is expected to demonstrate that integrated multidisciplinary action contributes to optimizing care time, reducing mortality rates, and improving functional outcomes. The discussion will address the main functions of each professional in trauma management and the importance of well-established protocols, such as the use of Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS). Additionally, the challenges faced by teams during care, such as the need for effective communication and continuous training, will be presented. Conclusion: The coordinated work of the multidisciplinary team is essential for the care of patients with polytraumas. The implementation of integrated protocols and joint training of professionals are effective strategies to ensure the quality of care and the survival of patients in emergency and urgent care settings.
