Epidemiological analysis of Chikungunya cases in Southeast Brazil

Abstract

The aim of this article is to carry out an epidemiological study on cases of Chikungunya virus infection in the Southeast region of Brazil between 2019 and 2023. For data collection, a query was carried out on the platform of the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (Datasus), to evaluate the cases of the disease in the Southeastern states formed by: Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, there was also the selection of comparison factors integrated by: age group, race, gender and year of notification. After processing the data, the results showed that females are more affected by the arbovirus, and that the 20-59 age group had the highest number of records of the disease throughout the study period, as well as the white and brown races being the most affected by the disease. This study showed that the epidemiological profile of the disease in the Southeast is similar to that of Brazil as a whole, and that this profile is made up of white or brown women aged between 20 and 59.
