Abstract

Zenker’s diverticulum (ZD) is a rare, acquired condition that affects the cervical esophagus, characterized by the formation of a diverticulum in Killian’s space, between the cricopharyngeal and inferior pharyngeal constrictor muscles. Although more common in elderly patients, it can also occur in younger individuals. Its main symptoms include dysphagia, regurgitation of food, chronic cough, and aspiration, which may lead to respiratory complications. Diagnosis is frequently confirmed by a barium esophagram, which reveals the diverticulum’s presence. The standard treatment is surgical, with diverticulectomy combined with cricopharyngeal myotomy being the most indicated approach. In this case report, a 45-year-old male patient with Zenker’s diverticulum was successfully treated using a minimally invasive technique. The postoperative evolution was positive, with good recovery and gradual diet progression. This case emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, while also highlighting the effectiveness of minimally invasive surgery. Continuous postoperative surveillance is crucial to ensure the functional recovery of the patient and prevent future complications.
