BOTULINUM TOXIN: ITS USE IN DENTISTRY

Abstract

Introduction: Botulinum toxin has been studied since the discovery of Botulism, a neuroparalytic disease caused by Clostridium botulinum.Currently, this bacterium serves therapeutic purposes, having the function of paralyzing the place where it was injected. It has been shown in the dental field, showing efficiency in cases such as: dental implants, masseter hypertrophy, bruxism and oromandibular dystonia. In addition, patients have been seeking rejuvenation 1. Objective: Promote an in-depth study of the relationship between botulinum toxin and dentistry, as well as its various forms of application and use in the area. Methodology: The work in question refers to an integrative review, carried out through the research of articles for reading, in Portuguese, English and Spanish during the months of January to April 2024, through the use of databases such as PubMed, Scielo and PMC. Results: The following number of articles was found: 119 (Scielo); 101 (PubMed); 30 (Science Direct) only with the application of the time lapse filter. Conclusion: Therefore, the relevance of Botulinum Toxin to dentists stands out, since they have the property to act in the therapeutic and aesthetic branch.
