Abstract

This article aims to review the current medical literature on the responsibilities of hospital
pharmacists in the treatment of cancer patients. The following indexers were used as search
engines: Scientific Electronic Library Online – SciELO; PubMed; VHL, Medline and Lilacs for the
selection of articles, through the keywords "Pharmaceutical, hospital and chemotherapy". It is
concluded that the pharmacist offers clear and accessible guidance on how to proceed during
treatment, explaining the effects of medications, preventive measures and necessary home care.
This educational performance not only empowers the patient, but also improves communication
between the health team and the family, making the treatment more humane and less traumatic.
