the OSTEOSYNTHESIS OF JAW FRACTURE AFTER INCLUDED THIRD MOLAR EXODONTY: Case report

Abstract

Cases of mandibular fracture resulting from extraction are rare, as long as intraoperative surgical concepts are used and post-surgical recommendations have been strictly followed. The theme is intended to explore jaw fixation techniques, especially the Champy technique. The objective of this article is to report a case of osteosynthesis of a mandible fracture following extraction of an impacted third molar. As a methodology, this article uses the case report of a female patient, 43 years old, who sought the urgent and emergency service in oral and maxillofacial traumatology, with a report of tooth extraction of tooth 48, approximately a week ago, without improvement in symptoms. It is possible to say that Champy's technique is based on the use of a single plate in the tension zone, which would be the region in which the fractured stumps tend to move away, creating difficulty in decreasing. The Champy technique has the great advantage of enabling intraoral access in the oblique line area, with rapid installation of a plate, reducing and stabilizing the fracture, contributing to bone repair. It is important to consider that the Champy technique is efficient and has considerable levels of success, as long as the procedure is carried out in the recommended manner, as shown in this case report.
