Análise espacial e temporal dos procedimentos de mastectomia no Brasil, entre o período de 2013 a 2023

Abstract

Breast cancer is a disease resulting from the multiplication of abnormal breast cells, causing a tumor with the potential to invade other organs. Furthermore, it is known that this disease ranks first in cancer mortality among women in Brazil, with a mortality rate of 11.71 deaths per 100,000 individuals, thus representing approximately 18,139 deaths. This neoplasia has higher incidence and mortality rates between the South and Southeast regions. The objective of this research was to evaluate the temporal trend and spatial distribution, according to the Brazilian states, of mastectomy procedures, their costs, average length of hospital stay and their mortality rate, between the years corresponding to 2013-2023. Given the aspects, it was noted that mastectomy in Brazil is a crucial procedure in the treatment of breast cancer, with significant impacts on women's quality of life. Therefore, approaches such as sectorectomy and quadrantectomy have proven to be safe and effective, with an increase in their incidence and a decrease in radical mastectomy with or without lymphadenopathy, with positive implications for patient recovery.
