Abstract
This work aims to present a clinical case of retreatment of a tooth with an extensive periapical lesion with the presence of a metallic core. A 59-year-old patient was referred for dental treatment due to the need for retreatment on tooth 22. On clinical examination, the presence of a fistula was observed and the patient reported pain on vertical and horizontal percussion, absence of periodontal pocket and on radiographic examination, it was observed there is extensive periapical bone radiolucency, presence of filling material, as well as a molten metallic core. After removing the metallic core with the aid of ultrasound, retreatment was performed using rotary instrumentation (Prodesign Logic RT). As an irrigating solution, 2.5% Sodium Hypochlorite was used. The filling of the root canal system was performed using the single cone technique associated with BIO-C Sealer cement. It is concluded that endodontic retreatment after removal of a molten metal core can be performed in a single session and determine the success of endodontic therapy.
