Abstract
Oral rehabilitation using implant-supported complete dentures has proven to be an effective solution for edentulous patients, providing improvements in masticatory function, aesthetics and quality of life. However, proper maintenance of these prostheses is essential to ensure their longevity and avoid complications such as peri-implantitis, loosening of components and prosthesis fractures. This study aims to review the literature on the importance of periodic maintenance of implant-supported complete dentures, discussing the main recommended care measures. The literature review was performed by consulting scientific articles published in the PubMED and Scielo databases, using the following descriptors: “Prótese implantossuportada or Implant-supported prosthesis”, “Manutenção or Maintenance” and “Higienização or Hygiene”. It is concluded that regular maintenance is essential for the success of the rehabilitation treatment, and that patients must follow professional guidelines to ensure the durability and proper functioning of implant-supported prostheses.
