ORAL MANIFESTATIONS RESULTING FROM CHEMOTHERAPY IN ONCOLOGICAL CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS: AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

In Brazil, more and more cases of cancer in children and adolescents are emerging. Among the available treatments, chemotherapy is the most likely to alleviate the disease and be successful, but it results in adverse reactions, such as hair loss, fatigue and oral complications. The objective of this integrative review was to evaluate the oral manifestations caused by chemotherapy in children and adolescents. For this, article searches were carried out through the following databases: LILACS, PubMed, BVS, MEDLINE and BBO. The results and the discussion addressed the main oral manifestations found in the literature, such as mucositis, gingivitis, fungal infections, hyposalivation and ulcerations. It was possible to observe the adverse effects of chemotherapy, such as oral manifestations in children and adolescents, where the dentist plays an important role in the treatment of the patient, providing comfort and treating oral complications that arise during chemotherapy, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
