Abstract
The dentist is in a strategic position for detecting orofacial lesions resulting from child sexual violence, playing an essential role in reporting child abuse. This article aims to analyze the role of the dentist in identifying and reporting cases of child violence, highlighting the importance of their knowledge of clinical and behavioral signs of abuse. The search engines PubMed, BVS, and Scielo were selected as search mechanisms for choosing articles using the descriptors forensic dentistry, child sexual abuse, and oral manifestations with the Boolean operators "AND" and "OR." From this study, it is concluded that identifying and reporting child sexual abuse is challenging, and in this context, dentists play a fundamental role in diagnosing and detecting oral and facial clinical signs to report suspected cases to the competent authorities.
