Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of anxiety and depression disorders on oral health, focusing on stomatological disorders that may arise or be intensified as a result, as well as the biological, behavioral, and psychosocial mechanisms that help explain this connection. The construction of this review was guided by the PICO strategy (P − population; I − intervention/area of interest; C − Comparison; O − outcomes), which directed the formulation of the guiding question in order to steer data collection from the following databases: PUBMED, Scielo - Scientific Electronic Library Online, Virtual Health Library (VHL), The Cochrane Library, Scirus, and Periódicos. The keywords were selected according to the Health Sciences Descriptors (DECS): "Psychological Factors, Oral Health, and Stomatology." Therefore, it is concluded that oral manifestations are closely related to mental disorders. In this sense, it becomes necessary for dental surgeons to have a broad knowledge to recognize the need for multidisciplinary intervention and provide the patient with more effective and comprehensive treatment.
