Abstract
The objective of this was to describe a clinical case of endodontic retreatment in a single session in a tooth with chronic apical periodontitis. A 22-year-old female patient was referred to A Clínica Integral III of the Faculty of Dentistry of Pernambuco for endodontic retreatment of tooth 11. Clinically, she was asymptomatic, and the periapical radiographic examination revealed radiopaque material similar to gutta percha and an inadequate filling of the root canal, (under-filling) in addition to failure to condense the filling material. Root canal retreatment was proposed to the patient, and informed consent was obtained before starting treatment. After anesthesia, the coronary opening was performed in an appropriate convenient manner. The gutta percha was removed with ProDesign Logic RT #30/10 and #.25/08 rotary instruments. Electronic foraminal odontometry was performed with the Root Zx Mini Apex Locator. The irrigating substance used was 2.5% sodium hypochlorite. The filling of the root canal system was performed using the 30.05 single cone technique, associated with Bio-C Selaer cement. Clinical and radiographic follow-up carried out after six months determined the success of conservative endodontic retreatment, since the patient was asymptomatic and the radiographic examination demonstrated homogeneity of the root canal filling. It is concluded that endodontic retreatment in a single session determined the success of conservative endodontic therapy.
