Repair of extensive periapical lesion after six years of clinical and radiographic follow-up - Clinical case report

Abstract

The objective of this article is to describe clinical cases of an extensive periapical lesion, treated by a non-surgical endodontic approach, with periapical repair. A 23-year-old female patient was referred to the private office of an endodontic specialist for endodontic treatment of teeth 11, 12, 21 and 22. Based on clinical findings and imaging exams, the diagnosis of apical periodontitis was established. . The therapeutic modality for the case was conservative endodontic treatment. The preparation of the root canals was carried out by Crown Down, associated with 2% Chlorhexidine, intracanal medication (Ultracal) for a period of four weeks. Root canal filling was performed using the active lateral condensation technique associated with BIO-C Sealer endodontic cement.  The follow-up consultation was carried out 6 years after root canal filling, where it was possible to observe the absence of signs and symptoms of inflammation and/or infection and the control x-ray revealed repair of the lesion and new bone formation in all treated teeth. It is concluded that conventional endodontic treatment carried out within technical standards is sufficient to determine the success of the therapy, allowing periapical bone neoformation, through effective cleaning and disinfection, use of intracanal medication based on calcium hydroxide and airtight filling. of the root canal system.
