RECURRING AFTHORUS STOMATITIS: MANAGEMENT AND TREATMENT IN CLINICAL PRACTICE

Abstract

Introduction: Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common oral condition characterized by the presence of painful ulcers that appear on the oral mucosa, significantly affecting the quality of life of affected individuals. Objective: To conduct an integrative review of the literature on the management and treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis in clinical practice, identifying the most effective therapeutic approaches and recommended guidelines for the management of the condition. Methodology: This is a qualitative bibliographic research, through a literature review. In the process of selecting the articles, the following databases related to the health area were used: Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Public Medline (PUBMED), Latin American Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS). Results: Thirty-four articles were previously found in the databases. After exclusion due to duplication and study design, 10 articles were removed because they did not meet the established inclusion criteria, leaving a total of 24 studies. Of these, 7 were selected for the final review. Discussion: These articles together cover a diverse range of approaches and perspectives on the management of recurrent aphthous stomatitis, demonstrating the need for an in-depth understanding of the etiological factors and personalized treatment options for patients. Conclusion: In summary, the treatment of recurrent aphthous stomatitis should be individualized and tailored to the needs of each patient, taking into account the severity of symptoms and the impact on daily life.
