Dental surgical management of patients with coagulopathies: an update on the literature

The objective of this study is to review the literature on the mechanisms used in patients with coagulopathies, in order to guide dentists in performing dental surgeries effectively and safely. This study is an Integrative Review (IR) of the literature, where the databases used were PubMed and BVS, in addition to research in books by leading authors on the subject. The descriptors used in English were “Blood Coagulation Disorders,” “Oral Surgery,” and “Tooth Extraction” for the period from 2018 to 2024. Articles in English, Portuguese, and Spanish were included, and the Boolean operator used was AND. Based on the research results, the study identified the main types of blood dyscrasias, as well as therapeutic and hemostatic approaches to control bleeding in dental procedures. It concludes that recent studies provide a range of alternatives for hemostatic techniques, offering comfort and safety for better recovery in patients with blood dyscrasias.
