Abstract
Adenoid cystic carcinoma is a rare malignant epithelial neoplasm of the salivary glands of the oral and maxillofacial. It is more common in smaller glands, the hard and soft palate, followed by the jugal mucosa and the floor of the mouth. It is usually slow growing and its aggressiveness is often underestimated. However, it is a neoplasm that tends to recur locally and eventually metastasise. The aim of this article is to present an extensive case of adenoid cystic carcinoma of the oral mucosa in a 52-year-old female patient, which histopathologically has aspects very similar to polymorphous adenocarcinoma, and to present the approach to make the correct diagnosis.
