Introduction: Femur fractures are considered one of the biggest health problems and their incidence has increased in recent years, with a high morbidity and mortality rate. It mainly affects elderly women and its incidence is intrinsically linked to aging, negatively impacting the functional dependence of these individuals. Objective: The objective of this study is to analyze the profile of hospitalizations for femoral fractures, in the city of Cascavel, in the period between January 2016 and November 2023, with an emphasis on epidemiology separated by sex and age group. Method: The study in question has an observational, descriptive and analytical epidemiological character, using information obtained from the DATASUS database for comparative elucidation. The period analyzed comprised January 2016 to November 2023. Analysis of results and discussion: The data shows a predominance of hospitalizations for femoral fractures in elderly people over 80 years of age, as well as a corresponding higher number of deaths in this age group. Furthermore, females represented the vast majority of hospitalizations when compared to males, probably related to greater bone loss in postmenopausal women. Final considerations: The results regarding the disparity of fractures in elderly people over 80 years of age are directly related to the greater fragility of this age group. Regarding the predominance of females, it was concluded that postmenopausal hypoestrogenism and marked bone loss are determining factors.
