A UTILIZAÇÃO DOS MINI-IMPLANTES NO TRATAMENTO ORTODÔNTICO: UMA REVISÃO INTEGRATIVA DA LITERATURA

Abstract

This article presents an integrative literature review on the use of mini-implants in orthodontic treatment, exploring their indications, advantages, limitations, and complications. A total of 11 studies published between 2019 and 2024 were selected from the PubMed, LILACS, MEDLINE, and BBO databases. The analysis revealed that mini-implants play an essential role in orthodontic anchorage, providing greater control over tooth movement and reducing dependence on extraoral devices. Their application in pre-prosthetic treatments and in cases of distalization and tooth intrusion showed satisfactory results, with increased predictability of movements and a reduction in total treatment time. However, the success of the technique depends on factors such as the patient's bone quality, proper mini-implant insertion, and the correct use of orthodontic biomechanics. Furthermore, complications such as peri-mucositis and implant failure may occur when poor oral hygiene or excessive loading is involved. Technological advancements, such as the use of surgical guides and three-dimensional planning software, are important tools for minimizing risks and improving clinical outcomes. It is concluded that mini-implants are a fundamental tool in modern orthodontics, making continuous professional development essential to maximize benefits and minimize potential complications.
