Abstract

In recent years, cholecystectomy has been one of the main surgical procedures performed in the emergency room of several hospitals. This article reviews the two main surgical approaches: laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) and open cholecystectomy (OC). LC, a minimally invasive technique, stands out for its advantages in terms of safety, resulting in an improvement in patients' quality of life. Although LC is the preferred approach, OC remains relevant in specific situations, leading to an increase in complications and length of stay. The article highlights the importance of a thorough clinical assessment when choosing the appropriate procedure, aiming to optimize surgical results and ensure safe and effective care.
