Abstract

Introduction: Mitral regurgitation represents a significant challenge for patients due to its potential complications, which has prompted the search for less invasive and more effective therapies. In this context, transcatheter valve replacement (TMVR) has emerged as a promising option. Objective: To explore recent advances in TMVR for mitral regurgitation, evaluating its clinical efficacy, safety and associated challenges. Methodology: An exhaustive bibliographic search was carried out in medical databases, followed by a selection and critical analysis of relevant studies. Results and discussion: The results show that devices such as Tendyne TMVR, Intrepid TMVR, AltaValve and Tiara have demonstrated technical success and improvements in mitral regurgitation, supporting their clinical utility. However, challenges were identified, such as accurate device sizing and managing complications. Compared to other options, TMVR has been shown to be a valuable alternative, especially in patients at high surgical risk. Conclusion: TMVR offers promise in the treatment of severe mitral regurgitation, but requires addressing technical and anatomical challenges. Future research is needed to optimize device design, improve patient selection, and evaluate long-term outcomes. Additional comparative studies are essential to define the role of TMVR in the therapeutic landscape and improve clinical care.
