Abstract
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) includes a group of neurodevelopmental impairments, restrictions or repetitions of behavioural stereotypes and language development. The aim of this study is to carry out a literature review on dental management in paediatric patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). A bibliographic survey was carried out, using online access to VHL Brazil and Pubmed, in English, Spanish and Portuguese, between the years 2019-2024, in order to understand the complexities of dental care for children with ASD, as well as to ascertain specific management strategies, in order to explore the impact of these practices on the experience of these patients. Five articles were selected. Given the high prevalence of ASD, it is important to consider how symptomatology and diagnosis can impact health and how interprofessional approaches can improve the care of these patients. In the treatment of children with ASD, a comprehensive and individualised approach is used, so that a more affective relationship can be established between the patient and the dentist.
