Abstract
Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) affects millions of people worldwide and is characterized by progressive and irreversible airflow limitation. Its main manifestations include chronic bronchitis and emphysema, which negatively impact patients' quality of life. Objective: To analyze the therapeutic advances in the treatment of COPD and identify persistent challenges in disease management. Methodology: A literature review was conducted using databases such as Google Scholar, LILACS, and PubMed, employing descriptors such as "COPD treatment," "bronchodilators," "corticosteroids," and "biological therapy." Studies published between 2019 and 2024, focused on therapies for COPD, were included. Results: Long-acting bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids have shown effectiveness in reducing exacerbations and improving lung function. Combination therapies, such as LABA/LAMA and LABA/ICS, stand out in managing severe patients. Emerging biological therapies and non-pharmacological interventions, such as pulmonary rehabilitation and oxygen therapy, complement treatments, providing better disease control. Conclusion: Advances in COPD treatment have improved patients' quality of life, although there is a need to develop more personalized and effective approaches to optimize outcomes.
