Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) has emerged as a valuable tool in the diagnosis and management of trauma patients, allowing the rapid and accurate assessment of traumatic injuries directly at the point of care, and the ability to provide real-time diagnostic information without the need to transport the patient to other departments is one of its main advantages. This article aims to carry out a systematic review of the current medical literature, following the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) guidelines, to evaluate the effectiveness of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) in the diagnosis and management of trauma patients. The search was conducted in the PubMed, Cochrane, LILACS and SciELO databases, covering the last five years (2018-2023). The search strategy included the terms “Point-of-Care Ultrasound”, “Trauma” and “Diagnosis”. The results obtained demonstrated the effectiveness of POCUS in the rapid identification of traumatic injuries, with a significant reduction in diagnosis time and an improvement in patients' clinical outcomes. Improvement in clinical outcomes was also reported, with percentages varying between 10% and 15%. It was concluded that POCUS is an effective tool in the management of trauma patients, providing rapid and accurate diagnoses, which can significantly improve clinical outcomes.
