Abstract
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVI) has revolutionized the treatment of severe aortic stenosis, offering a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery (SAVR). The objective of this review was to analyze the main benefits of TAVI in relation to SAVR in the management of aortic stenosis and its clinical and economic impacts. A search for clinical articles was carried out on the Pubmed platform and a total of 15 scientific articles were included after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. Through the studies analyzed, it was observed that the comparison of TAVI with SAVR showed similar results in terms of mortality and complications, however TAVI presents higher initial costs due to the high prices of valve prostheses. Another point analyzed was the growing expansion of clinical indications for TAVI and the need for constant studies to evaluate the durability of prostheses. In conclusion, the choice between TAVI and SAVR should be made based on an individualized assessment, taking into account factors such as age and comorbidities.
