ABSTRACT :
Background: Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is an endemic disease in Brazil and the Brazilian northeast is the main region involved. Therefore, the great importance of epidemiological studies in the region. Objective: To analyze the epidemiological profile of VL in the state of Bahia, between 2018 - 2022. Methodology:This is an epidemiological study quantitative, observational, ecological, retrospective of confirmed cases of visceral leishmaniasis in Bahia between 2018 - 2022 based on data collection from the TABNET, digital platform, in the Department of the Unified Health System. Which were analyzed based on the number of cases according to macro-region health notification, age group, gender, race, diagnosis parasitological or immunofluorescence and evolution. Graphics from the Microsoft Excel 2020® program were used. Results: Between 2018 - 2022, 979 cases of VL were reported in Bahia. The macro-region with the highest number of cases was the Central-East with 21% of the total. The most affected age groups were 20-39 years old and 1-4 years old respectively. The male gender predominated, the brown race and the evolution towards cure occurred in the majority of cases . Conclusions: It is extremely important to carry out epidemiological studies to plan better epidemiological surveillance strategies and effective public health policies to combat VL.
