Abstract

Vitamin D is today considered a steroid hormone, whose main function is the regulation of bone metabolism, also performing other functions of relevance to the human body, including the modulation of immune responses, due to the stimulation of the immune system, being related, for example, to the development of autoimmune disorders. The present work aims to analyze, through a bibliometric analysis, publications focused on the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and the development of autoimmune diseases. In this context, a quantitative bibliometric research was carried out on the relationship between vitamin D and autoimmune diseases, using the Health Sciences Descriptors "Hypovitaminosis" and "Autoimmune diseases" in PubMed, BVS, and SciELO resulting in 56 articles filtered by criteria such as full access and publication between 2013 and 2023. After reading, 33 articles

were chosen, finally 25 aligned with the proposed theme. A word cloud was generated from the abstracts, highlighting the most frequent terms in the studies analyzed, using the IRAMUTEQ program. Productivity had an average of 2,5 articles per year, with a higher prevalence of research published in 2018 and 2021, with the works being published mainly in Italy, and in a total of 22 different journals. It is possible to extract from the studies that guided the execution of this work, the contemplation that hypovitaminosis D contributes to the prevalence of some autoimmune diseases and their immunomodulatory effects. Therefore, it is possible to notice controversies between some authors on the topic, which highlights the importance of further studies, in order to better elucidate this topic and expand the discussion about what actions should be taken to mitigate the consequences arising from this association between disability of vitamin D and autoimmune diseases.
