COVERAGE OF MULTIPLE RECESSIONS USING MUCODERM® COLLAGEN MATRIX: CASE REPORT

Abstract

The use of connective tissue substitute materials in periodontal and peri-implant surgeries has increased in recent years. This was due to the need to seek alternative techniques that are effective and cause less morbidity for patients.  The coverage of multiple gingival recessions in anterior teeth, using Mucoderm® collagen matrix, proved to be effective and promising, especially in patients with a history of orthodontic treatment and aesthetic compromise. This clinical case describes a 51-year-old patient who, after periodontal therapy and oral hygiene guidance, underwent a surgical tunneling procedure with collagen matrix, achieving good aesthetic and functional results. The use of collagen matrix as a substitute for autogenous connective tissue graft offers interesting advantages such as; avoids the need for a donor area, possibility of covering several teeth, shorter operative time, reduced postoperative discomfort and good integration with soft tissues. Mucoderm® can be a viable and reliable alternative to conventional autograft, with the potential for long-term aesthetic and functional improvements.
