ORAL SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF PATIENTS WITH IDIOPATHIC THROMBOCYTOPENIC PURPURA: literature review

Abstract

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) is characterized by a blood disease resulting from a hematological imbalance, showing a significant decrease in platelet count. Dental surgical treatment has a degree of complexity according to the procedure to be performed, the pathognomonic signs, the pathology that needs to be treated and the systemic situation of the patient. The dental surgeon needs to carry out a detailed anamnesis, establish an individualized protocol, proposing a specific plan, such as possible prognosis and execution of the treatment. The objective of this work is to present the criteria for an adequate surgical dental management in patients with ITP, which is a pathology rarely observed in the clinical practice of the dental surgeon (DC). A literature review was carried out using the following databases: BVS, Public Domain, Google Scholar, LILACS, MEDLINE, PUBMED and SCIELO. Surgical treatment in patients with ITP needs special attention, aiming at continuous communication between the DS and the hematologist, due to the high risk of possible infections and hemorrhages, concluding that the DS must understand and take the necessary care for the treatment of patients with bleeding problems, such as ITP.
