Complications caused by the placement of the Intrauterine Device during the Postpartum period

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To describe the complications caused by the placement of the intrauterine device during the postpartum period. METHOD: The research is an integrative review, carried out based on the following guiding question: What complications are caused by the placement of the intrauterine device during the postpartum period?  The PICO strategy was used to ask this question, where “p” population: Women who had the intrauterine device inserted after birth, “I” interest: Assessment of complications from the intrauterine device after birth, and “C” and “O“ context: Description of intrauterine device complications after childbirth. An advanced search was used through the Virtual Health Library (VHL), crossing the descriptors using the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”.   RESULTS: Through advanced research, 81 articles were obtained, among these articles, 6 of them make up this research, which resulted in two categories, namely: Intrauterine Device (IUD); and Complications caused after IUD placement postpartum. CONCLUSION: Communication from the doctor or any other appropriate health professional is important, who must provide humanized and welcoming care to the postpartum woman, always clarifying the patient's doubts about the pros and cons of inserting the IUD, explaining the possible complications that may arise. to have.
