Abstract

The main objective of this article is to analyze the incidence of hospitalizations of children diagnosed with cerebral palsy in Brazil. This is a descriptive and ecological study based on data provided by the Department of Information Technology of the Unified Health System (DATASUS) through the Hospital Information System (SIH) platform. The research covers the period from 2017 to 2023 and includes the analysis of variables such as year of care, age group, and region. When analyzing the numbers following the mentioned variables, a predominance is observed between the year 2017 with (2,757) cases with a rate of 15.90% of diagnoses with (CP), the Southeast region presents almost half of the registered cases, with a rate equivalent to 42.48% (7,367) and the age group in infants from 5 to 9 years old with (6,465) of the cases. Therefore, it is clear that the number of hospitalizations of children diagnosed with cerebral palsy is still a cause for great concern and public health. In view of this, it is recommended that public health policies, both curative and preventive, be strengthened and adapted to the specific needs of infants with cerebral palsy. In addition, adequate monitoring during pregnancy is important, with adequate prenatal care, facilitating early diagnosis.
