Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Malignant neoplasia of the cervix, or cervical cancer, is an important cause of female mortality, especially in developing countries. In Brazil, cervical cancer represents a significant challenge to public health. This epidemiological study analyzes hospital admissions for cervical cancer in 2024, focusing on geographic distribution, demographic characteristics and monthly variations, to understand regional inequalities and support more effective public policies. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to quantify and analyze the rates of hospitalizations for malignant neoplasia of the cervix in Brazil in the first half of 2024. METHODOLOGY: The retrospective study with a quantitative approach used data from the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS), provided by the SUS Information Technology Department (TABNET/DATASUS). The analysis covered hospitalizations for malignant neoplasia of the cervix in Brazil from January 2024 to June 2024, using descriptive statistics and tabulation in Microsoft Excel 2016 and Microsoft Word 10 spreadsheets. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Between January and June 2024, the The total number of hospitalizations for malignant neoplasia of the cervix in Brazil was 14,648, with the Southeast region presenting the highest number of cases (5,793), followed by the Northeast region (3,796). The North Region had the lowest number of hospitalizations (1,059). A significant monthly variation is observed, with a peak in April. These data highlight regional inequality in incidence and reinforce the need for regional policies aimed at combating cervical cancer. CONCLUSION: Therefore, data on hospitalizations for cervical cancer from January to June 2024 show monthly and regional variations. The high incidence in the Southeast, Northeast and South Regions and the persistent low in the North and Central-West Regions highlight the need for improvements in health infrastructure and strategies to reduce regional inequalities. It is crucial to promote equitable access to treatment to ensure effective diagnosis and treatment throughout Brazil.
