Abstract
The fracture of an instrument in the root canal during treatment is an unwanted and frustrating complication for the professional, the fractured instrument can hinder the cleaning and shaping process and potentially impact the prognosis of the treatment. Aim: to report the case of a fractured endodontic instrument in the root canal. Case report: A 51-year-old female Brazilian patient with no associated systemic conditions came to the clinic for endodontic treatment. During the treatment, the endodontic instrument (lentulum) fractured in the root canal of the upper right canine (13). When the case was assessed, treatment using the bypass technique was chosen. Final considerations: The baypass technique is the first attempt to remove the fractured instrument. Its aim is to bypass the fractured instrument with a small-caliber file. It is a conservative technique, which aims to preserve as much tooth structure as possible and is an effective technique for solving some cases of instrument fracture in endodontics.
