Sepsis is a critical clinical condition resulting from a systemic inflammatory response to an infection, leading to potentially fatal organ dysfunction. This article aims to identify the epidemiological profile of sepsis hospitalizations reported in the state of Alagoas from 2013 to 2023. An epidemiological study was conducted, analytical in nature, with a cross-sectional design and temporal analysis over the years 2013 to 2023. The research utilized secondary data obtained from the Hospital Information System of the SUS (SIH/SUS), focusing on hospital admissions due to septicemia in the state of Alagoas. The data analysis sought to identify trends over time, frequency patterns of hospitalizations, and to examine epidemiological indicators such as mortality rate and average hospital stay. The study concludes that the state of Alagoas, located in the Northeast region of Brazil, exhibits distinct epidemiological characteristics that influence the profile of sepsis hospitalizations. The analysis of sepsis hospitalizations in Alagoas between 2013 and 2023 reveals patterns that can be attributed to regional and socioeconomic factors, including access to healthcare services, infrastructure conditions, and demographic characteristics of the population. Sepsis remains one of the leading causes of hospital mortality, both in Alagoas and in other regions of Brazil. The data from this study highlight the persistence of this condition over the past decade, with a significant incidence of hospitalizations and high associated mortality rates.
