Nursing Care for Oncology Patients with Totally Implanted Central Venous Catheters

Objective: To analyze nursing care for cancer patients with a fully implanted central venous catheter. Methods: This is an integrative literature review of articles published in the last five years in Portuguese, Spanish and English. The data was searched in the following databases: BVS, EBSCO, BDENF and LILACS, using the following Health Science Descriptors (DeCS): Oncology Nursing, indwelling catheters and Oncology, combining the terms using the Boolean operator "AND". The inclusion criteria applied were: articles published in national and international databases, full texts available in the database and languages of publication. Results: 30 articles were found. After reading and analyzing the articles, 08 articles made up the final sample of this review. The results showed that nursing care is extremely important for patients who use a fully implanted central venous catheter, given that this device aims to improve the quality of life of cancer patients. Conclusion: The findings of this study show that both the insertion and maintenance of the correct catheter is an important nursing task.
