Abstract

Children with special needs comprise a range of conditions that have supported specific medical care, specialized interventions, and the use of adapted services or programs. This definition also applies to the context of dental care. This article aims to explore the challenges faced by pediatric dentists in caring for Patients with Special Needs (PSN) and discuss adapted approaches that can be interactive to overcome such difficulties. For the construction of this article, a bibliographical survey was carried out in the databases SciVerse Scopus, Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), U.S. National Library of Medicine (PUBMED) and ScienceDirect, with the help of the Mendeley reference manager. Patients with special needs in pediatric dentistry present unique challenges that can be adapted and comprehensively understood by professionals in the field. Through the implementation of strategies such as behavioral guidance, conscious sedation and multidisciplinary teamwork, it is possible to provide quality care, ensuring the well-being and oral health of these patients.
