Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Mini-implants are temporary anchorage devices that have received increasing attention in dental research and wide acceptance in clinical practice. Dystalization of the maxillary molars is an excellent strategy to treat or compensate for Class II malocclusions of a dentoalveolar nature or to compensate for malocclusions. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate, through an integrative literature review, the main results on the use of mini-implants for molar distalization. MATERIALS AND METHODS: this study presents a qualitative methodology, with the development of the following research question: What are the main results on the use of mini-implants for molar distalization? The U.S. National Library of Medicine (PubMed) and Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) electronic databases were used, as well as the Cochrane Library and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) to search and identify the to search and identify studies that would answer the guiding question of this integrative literature review, with an evaluation between July 2014 and July 2024. The following descriptor (MeSH/DeCS) was used: "Dental Implants"; "Molar/Molar Tooth" and the free word "Distalization/Distalização", serving as a key for the search of scientific articles in each database according to some inclusion and exclusion criteria. RESULTS: Orthodontic mini-implants, when correctly indicated, offer safety, simplify orthodontic mechanics, avoid side effects and reduce treatment time, demonstrating satisfactory results in the correction of Class II malocclusions. CONCLUSION: The use of these devices has increased due to their role as aids in anchorage, which minimizes adverse effects during molar distalization and contributes to satisfactory results in the correction of molars. Class II malocclusions. The results of this study answered the guiding question
