INTRODUCTION: Gastritis and duodenitis are inflammations that affect the lining of the stomach and duodenum, respectively. Gastritis can be acute or chronic, while duodenitis often occurs along with gastritis. Both conditions cause varying symptoms and can lead to serious complications, highlighting the importance of an effective approach to their management and prevention. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to quantify and analyze hospitalization rates for gastritis and duodenitis in Brazil. METHODOLOGY: The retrospective study with a quantitative approach used data from the SUS Hospital Information System (SIH/SUS), provided by the SUS Information Technology Department (TABNET/DATASUS). The analysis covered hospitalizations for gastritis and duodenitis in Brazil from January 2019 to December 2023, using descriptive statistics and tabulation in Microsoft Excel 2016 and Microsoft Word 10 spreadsheets. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Between January 2019 and December 2023, Brazil recorded 59,778,739 hospitalizations for gastritis and duodenitis, with the highest incidence in the Southeast (23,603,015 cases) and Northeast (15,868,514 cases) regions. The increase in hospitalizations, especially in 2023, highlights the severity of these conditions and the need for effective prevention and management strategies. Regional variations highlight the importance of health policies adapted to local needs. CONCLUSION: Analysis of hospitalizations for gastritis and duodenitis in Brazil between 2019 and 2023 shows a significant increase, with notable regional variations. The Northeast and Southeast regions have the highest rates, highlighting the need for specific public policies. Improving access to diagnosis, treatment and prevention of these conditions is essential. The study highlights the importance of integrated regional strategies to reduce prevalence and improve patients' quality of life.
