Abstract

This integrative review article explores the criteria for the indication of gastrectomy in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma, aiming to synthesize the most recent evidence and identify best clinical practices. The analysis included studies published between 2010 and 2024, focusing on aspects such as tumor staging, the choice between subtotal and total gastrectomy, and the impact of D2 lymphadenectomy. Additionally, the study evaluated postoperative complications and the quality of life of patients following surgery, comparing different surgical approaches, including minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopy and robotic surgery. The findings underscore the importance of a personalized approach that considers both clinical and individual patient factors to optimize outcomes. It concludes that clinical practice must continue to evolve, integrating new technologies and therapeutic advancements, with periodic reviews of guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence. This review contributes to a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the surgical management of gastric adenocarcinoma, offering insights that can improve treatment and patient quality of life.
