Abstract

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate maternal and fetal complications (clinical and obstetric) in women with pacemakers, as well as the relationship between stimulation modes (atrial, ventricular or atrioventricular) and pregnancy outcome, in terms of maternal-fetal complications, birth weight and APGAR. Materials and methods: Retrospective research based on the analysis of medical records of pregnant women with pacemakers, followed up in the Cardiology and Pregnancy sectors of IDPC, INCOR and HSP (2000-2024). Result: 65 pregnancies in 52 women were analyzed. 12 patients had a pacemaker implanted during pregnancy. The sample was divided into two groups, according to the cardiac stimulation method. Group 1: 25 pregnancies in atrioventricular mode. Group 2: 40 pregnancies in ventricular status. The two groups were statistically similar. There was no significant difference between the stimulation methods and the weight of the newborns (p = 0.765), as well as in relation to the Apgar score (p = 0.287). We observed a significant negative correlation (p = 0.017) between the time from pacemaker implantation to pregnancy and the newborn's weight. Conclusion: It was found that in both forms of cardiac stimulation, births occurred with good birth conditions and adequate weight for gestational age. The longer the time between pacemaker implantation and pregnancy, the lower the birth weight.
