Abstract

INTRODUCTION: In recent years, robotic surgery has been innovative in various surgical areas of medicine. Its superiority to laparoscopy in some cases is notable due to the greater post-operative comfort provided to the patient due to the smaller incisions. OBJECTIVE: Given the advances in robotic surgery in general, this study aims to elucidate the role of robotic surgery in the oncological surgical approach. METHODOLOGY: The study's scientific methodology is an integrative review of the medical literature, guided by searches in the international databases SciELO, PubMED and MEDLINE. RESULTS: In particular, robotic surgery is even more effective than other procedures, due to the larger area visualized, and is capable of resecting tumors that are difficult to reach. Its positive role in approaching cancers such as breast, prostate and lung cancer is noteworthy. CONCLUSION: Robotic surgery is an effective type of minimally invasive surgery for oncology cases, and is associated with better compliance in patients undergoing various surgeries.
