Use of red and white aesthetic principles in the correction of gummy smiles

Gummy smile is a term used to describe a smile in which a significant part of the gum is exposed when someone smiles. This can happen for a number of reasons. The degree of gum exposure varies from case to case; it is not necessarily a health problem. However, some people may feel uncomfortable or insecure about their smile and seek cosmetic treatment. There are various treatment options for correcting gummy smiles; the choice of treatment depends on the cause of the gummy smile and the patient's preferences. This paper aims to demonstrate the clinical resolution achieved by using the principles of white and red aesthetics to correct a gummy smile, characterized by excess bone tissue volume and altered passive eruption. This study explored the complex interaction between the gingival smile and the aesthetic aspects of the white and red region of the oral cavity. During this analysis, the importance of dental and periodontal aesthetics for patients' quality of life and self-esteem was highlighted.
