Diagnosis and treatment of acute otitis media: a literature review

This article aims to evaluate the clinical aspects of preoperative care carried out in the last five years. Integrative review in the BVS, LILACS, SciELO, PubMed database of works published between 2020 and 2024, combining the descriptors "acute otitis media", "diagnosis" and "treatment" with the Boolean descriptor "AND". It is concluded that acute otitis media is a bacterial or viral infection of the middle ear, generally accompanying an upper respiratory tract infection. Symptoms include otalgia, often associated with systemic symptoms, especially in very young people. Diagnosis is based on otoscopy. Treatment involves analgesics and sometimes antibiotics.
