Abstract

In many cases, dental implants are considered the most advanced option for replacing missing teeth, and several studies have shown a high long-term success rate. However, the success of this procedure depends on several factors, osseointegration being one of the most crucial. In view of this, the general objective of this study is to understand the influence of type 2 diabetes mellitus on the osseointegration of dental implants. The methodology proposed for this study is a literature review. A search was carried out in the digital database of scientific articles available at: PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, Periódico Capes. In view of the theme presented by this research, it was possible to verify through the searches made in the databases that there are obstacles in the healing process, especially bone healing, in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, since this condition is frequent in Brazil.
