Varicella-zoster infection in pregnancy can have serious consequences for the fetus, especially in the first trimesters, including congenital varicella syndrome. Vaccination before conception is essential to prevent chickenpox and its complications. Public health policies and educational campaigns are essential to increase awareness and prevention. This study is an integrative review using the PICo strategy to explore the implications of varicella-zoster infection in pregnant women and preventive and therapeutic measures. The methodology comprises five stages: literature search, data collection, analysis of titles and abstracts, full reading and dissemination of the results, resulting in the selection of 7 relevant articles. Databases such as LILACS, SciELO, PubMed and Scopus were investigated, with specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Varicella-zoster infection in the first trimester can cause significant congenital anomalies, such as malformations and neurological defects. Maternal infection close to delivery increases the risk of neonatal varicella, which can be severe and fatal without adequate treatment. Early treatment with antivirals and immunoglobulin is crucial to prevent serious complications.
